George is a software developer and tech entrepreneur from Toronto, Canada. He has developed software since a very young age, and contributed to open source software as early as 1994. At the University of Toronto he studied Astronomy and Astrophysics, Computer Science, and Mathematics. While he was supposedly studying those things, he was a core contributor to the KDE project, and in particular continued work on the KHTML web engine as it was adopted by Apple to form WebKit. Professionally, he has worked at IBM on Net.Commerce, and after graduation founded a successful software consultancy followed by the mobile web browser company Torch Mobile. Torch was sold to BlackBerry in 2009. After 5 years at BlackBerry running, among other things, the BlackBerry browser team, he left to start a new tech startup named Topology. George has a particular interest in computer security, operating system design and development, compilers, and networking. He also enjoys travel, food and wine, and staying fit with skiing, tennis, and running.
