The GoaP crew hosted a Startup2Startup brunch for the local startup community in West Berlin this past Sunday morning. We were thrilled to meet people from all over, including startups Toksta, Sponsorpay, susuh, and many others.
We were especially lucky to have Garhard and Bernd, the CEO and CTO of modern music production software company, Ableton, join us for the brunch. During our conversation, Garhard and Bernd filled us in on why they started Ableton and how they grew it to over a million customers worldwide. Today, famous DJs and innovative musicians around the world use Ableton to produce music. Here are some highlights of the geek’s conversation with the two founders:
On starting up Ableton:
“We met at our previous company, a music software company, because we thought that we could take things one step further in making music. When we met, we realized we had the same vision and spun off together.”
On working:
“We are so lucky because going to work never feels like work – we can’t believe that people actually pay us to do this!”
On customers:
“One of the most rewarding things is watching people use a product you create in ways you never imagined. Sometimes we hear of people we didn’t even imagine using our product and we love that. People have even told us that we’ve changed music today. “
On the web and innovation:
“We are all old people and we don’t use the web much. We don’t use facebook, we don’t use myspace, we don’t use twitter—but we know that the future of our company will be on the web. ”
