Brian joined Asiya Investments in 2011 and is currently Director, Investment Advisory based in their Dubai offices. He has spent the last fifteen years working for GCC firms and has been based in the region for the majority of that time. Prior to Asiya Investments Brian was a partner at The Capital Partnership. He joined the business when it had seven staff and was part of the management team that tripled AUM over the seven years between 2004 and 2010. He left after the business was sold to NCB and joined Asiya Investments initially via his own firm Optimus Consultancy. Previously Brian was Head of Asset Management at NBK where he doubled the size of the department and launched 14 investment funds between 2001 and 2003. He launched NBK’s KD Money market Fund which is now the largest investment fund in Kuwait and launched the Shariah compliant Ijara Income funds which are now a $3bn program. He originally came to the Middle East in 1998 to set up KPC’ successful institutional investment program.
Prior to moving to the GCC Brian spent 10 years in the UK investment industry. He ran quantitative bond and currency portfolios at Edinburgh & Dunedin Fund Managers between 1992 and 1997. At that time, with a colleague, he ran the biggest FX overlay book in Scotland. Before that he was a Eurobond Market Maker in the City at Bank of Tokyo. He joined the industry in 1986 initially with J P Morgan. Brian has a BA (Hons), MSc and MBA majoring in Economics, Econometrics and Quantitative Finance, the professional ASIP qualification and he is a member of the CFA Institute. He has significant experience of working with institutions and families and in the GCC and continues to serve as an independent director on several fund boards, trusts and investment firms. He has also lectured on a number of investment courses including those for the CFA program.
